Oprah, Tyra, “Girlfriends,” Maya Angelou… How much do people really know about what it is like to be a Black Woman in America? The more we live, the more we as Black women realize that people have NO IDEA what we’re really like! Here are some things that we experience as true for us about being Black women.
I really like your new blog! I confess I’ve often thought if not outright asked the questions you mentioned about black hair. Thank you clarifying and for sharing your thoughts and humor. Can’t wait to read more! Would you mind if I provided a link from my blog to yours?
Yes please!
Wow, I just discovered your blog. Love the topics you cover, so much so, like Jessica, I’m adding you as a link (smile). By the way, my next book, A NATURAL WOMAN, will cover a lot of the same issues you all address in your blog (Black women, hair, race, dating, etc). Look for it next year– April 2009.
I’m actually tearing up while reading just this tiny bio. For so long I have tried to speak on this issue with friends, co-workers..hell, anyone who would listen. I’m white, and although raised with a very open world view, it always seemed it was the lighter skinned cultures that I was learning about. It also seems in some circles that it is only lighter skinned cultures that we are “allowed” to be curious and ask questions about. Friends have no issue asking someone to share about their “asian” heritage and culture, but don’t ask a question about being “black”.
Thank God for my dear multi-racial, multi-viewpoint friends, who feel as comfortable exploring this issue with me. I can’t wait to share this site with them.
